Michael Francisco-McGuire

Chief External Officer

As Chief External Officer, Michael creates and leads all externally facing initiatives that augment Confluence Philanthropy’s impact, sustainably build its network, and strengthen advocacy and communications in alignment with its mission, values, and strategic plan.

Michael joined the organization as Confluence's first Chief Operating Officer in 2020, coinciding with a period of significant growth. In 2023, Michael became Confluence's inaugural Chief External Officer to support activities allowing for deeper collaboration with members.

Michael joined Confluence with over 20 years of experience in non-profit operations, events, fundraising, and cross-sector partnership building. He is deeply committed to advancing racial justice, fighting climate change, and working at their intersection. He is passionate about mission-aligned investing and its impact on some of the biggest issues of our time.

Previously, Michael served as Managing Director of Operations at iMentor, a nonprofit dedicated to mentoring students from low-income communities. He built the operational infrastructure needed to grow from 60 employees in New York to over 150 across the U.S.

Michael also served as one of the first employees of The Climate Group, a global network of business, government, and non-profit organizations dedicated to expanding the clean energy economy. Michael helped The Climate Group grow to 150 employees across five continents, serving thousands of members. Initially as Head of Global Partnerships, then as U.S. Director of Operations, he implemented both the regional and international infrastructure needed to support The Climate Group’s expansion and accelerated impact.

Michael holds an M.A. in Public Administration from New York University and is a dedicated father of two young children.
