Laurin has spent much of her professional life working with non-profits, major global philanthropies, and mission-driven organizations to deliver impact, build reputations, and leverage storytelling for change. As Confluence Philanthropy’s Communications Program Director, Laurin is responsible for envisioning and executing a communications program that amplifies member voices, centers innovation in conventional business media, attracts positive attention to the impact industry, and reaps benefits for over 260 Confluence members.
During her previous role as a communications officer at the Open Society Foundations, she developed external communications strategies to combat COVID-19 and support vaccine equity, draw attention to cases of war crimes and crimes against humanity, and more. She has also served as a UN Advocacy Coordinator for UK-based charity WaterAid, where she coordinated advocacy during UNGA and the High-Level Political Forum. In this role, she worked with other civil society groups to influence the final text of the UN General Assembly resolution “The Human Rights to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation.” Laurin has worked at a professional services firm, providing communications support to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Prior to this, she was elected as the youngest female Member of Parliament in Canadian history in 2011 and served a four-year term during which she held multiple Shadow Cabinet roles. Her tenure on the foreign affairs committee led her to pursue a master’s degree in human rights from The London School of Economics and Political Science. She now sits on the Board of Amnesty International Canada.
